Frequently Asked Questions

Public Speech-Language services are available in Alberta at no charge, and I encourage you to explore this option before accessing private services. Unfortunately, there are limitations to the public services; there may be long wait times, the service provided may not be one-on-one treatment, and there may be restrictions such as the number of treatment sessions you receive.

Private Speech-Language services may offer more flexibility; daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available, and you decide on the number, the length and frequency of treatment sessions.

The fees for Speech-Language services begin at $170 per hour; this rate is in accordance with the Alberta Speech-Language Association of Private Practitioners.

Many group insurance plans cover at least a portion of the cost of private Speech-Language Pathology services, which are usually listed under ‘Extended Health Care: Speech Therapy’. Please contact your insurance provider to discuss your eligibility for fee coverage.

Appointments take place online or in person, at your home or at the clinic.

Online therapy may be the right fit for you; there is no traveling, increase access in remote areas of Alberta, easily fits into busy schedules, and it can be done anywhere with high speed internet! If you choose online services, it must be noted that no technological communication can be guaranteed to be fully secure and there is a potential for technology failure. Please send me any other questions you may have about doing speech-language treatment online.

The number of recommended sessions will vary between each individual; this will depend on severity of the disorder, progress with treatment, and motivation. Ultimately, the decision is up to you, however I can provide recommendations to support your decision making.
